Isn’t the real story, rather, the fact that the The Dorset Echo and all its regional sister papers of London based Newsquest, (actually owned by Gannett / USA Today Co), choose to populate their locally based newspapers with the publishing equivalent of Muzak, a generic background hum of functional recorded music designed for public spaces, elevators, offices and supermarkets.
I mean, why employ real journalists, (or even AI based agents), to generate news copy above the reading age of a delinquent teenager when, without the aid of more than a handful of neurones, a Newsquest employee or sub contractor can fill a local newspaper with “Top 5, 10 or 20 Best … “Fish and chips” or “UK Beaches” or “Walking trails” or “Happiest places” or “National campsites” or whatever other top 5 page fillers they can research to easily give the superficial illusion that the paper appears to be keeping up with any or every latest news or views.
And me? I fret and worry about these journalists just like I fret and worry about those poor human beings who’s sole job on this earth is to phone up, trick and scam other fellow humans because, in both scenarios, I think it is tragic that some folk have to perform such demeaning roles just to earn a living. 🙁
