Cycling or ebiking from Bridport to Eype beach with the sun and a spring tide rising over my shoulder, I trek, (or cycle), the hard packed sand 800 metres west along an unsullied, natural lateral line of a beach that leads to fingers of seaweed covered rocks reaching out into the ocean under the spectacular promontory cliff known as Thorncombe Beacon.
From that idyllic, sublime and peaceful location, with only the company of an occasional foraging fox or some circling bird of prey, I spin for bass, experiencing a wonderful detachment and disassociation from humanity and the frantic fuss of 21st century life.
