The hallucination issue has NOT been resolved and will not be resolved with existing tech.
Without a solid underlying foundation, few human ideas survive to maturity to reflect the original design goals planned for them thus the sentiment of ‘building a house on sand’ represents the perfect metaphor to describe the tipping point or butterfly effect that hallucinations pose to current transformer based AI technology.
And yet, while one small flaw may corrupt a whole process or system catastrophically, that very same system simply papers over the cracks, fills in the blanks with seductively believable nonsense and most folk either tolerate that reality or worse, fail to even appreciate or notice the manipulative textual slight of hand deployed.
Yet here we are witnessing humanity investing trillions of dollars into designing a so called self-improving superintelligence that will always have that basic flaw built into it.
That truth, alone, should warn us that we should not be relying upon or trust such a compromised technology no matter how many superficial or fundamental benefits it may still offer.
You will be familiar with the proverb, “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear” or the maxim, “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link” or the saying, “One rotten apple spoils the barrel” and you already recognise the wisdom embedded within the sentiments being expressed.
They are warning us that when we drop our guard, adopt some “That’ll do” attitude or build our empires on shifting sand, (or silicone), we are admitting to ourselves that no amount of refinement can fundamentally alter the quality of an underlying material.
And in our case, (in indecently embracing a still unproven technology on behalf of the whole human race), that material is one with a glaring flaw.
And I’m not being naive by still discussing the hallucination issue. Meaning, despite being recently chastised online for pursuing “such a dated narrative”, the things still deliver us shockingly unreliable results and, unless I’m missing something, that situation, that lamentable reality is very much alive right now in September 2026, isnt it?
It is in my world!
